Ein neues Leben beginnt, ein Traum wird wahr… und ab heute bilingual

Wir koennen es noch immer nicht begreifen. Und doch passiert es taeglich.

Was war los:
Martin- ein guter Freund- hat uns vom Kloster abgeholt und zum Flughafen Muenchen gebracht. Das waren 5 Stunden Fahrtzeit für ihn und seine huebsche Tochter Bianca- Danke nochmal dafuer!!!
Das Terminal 2 der Lufthansa ist wenig Gaeste-freundlich. Kaum Baenke, schmuddelig, fehlende Gastronomie vor 10 Uhr morgens??? Nicht zu glauben. Wir sind ins Kempinski gegenueber gegangen. Kleiner Snack, guter Latte macchiato und …Das erste unerwartete Ereignis des Tages: Ein Mitglied der thailaendischen Koenigsfamilie wohnt fuer Monate da, um am Flughafen den Flugschein zu machen. Was fuer ein Rummel! Sicherheitskraefte ueberall (ca. 20), viele Bedienstete (ca. 50), große Wagen, die bis zur letzen Minute poliert wurden, rote Teppiche bis zur Wagentuer. Und Carmen und Bernhard sitzen in der ersten Reihe, ca. 3 Meter weg und trinken Kaffee. Irgendwie surreal.
Abflug puenktlich 15.35 Uhr von H44. Ein gutes Omen für mich- grins. Business-Einstieg, ganz locker, exclusiver Service. Die Sitze kleine Gameboys, da in jede gewünschte Position verstellbar. Fernsehprogramme, Lernprogramme, Spiele, alles, was das Herz begehrt. Ausruhen, entspannen, ausgezeichnete Menues genießen (gekocht von Alexander Herrmann), dazu erstklassige Weine entdecken. Kurzum: verwöhnt werden in herzlicher Atmosphaere. Lufthansa hat diesen Flug ein Erlebnis werden lassen.
Ankunft ca. 1 Stunde früher in Los Angeles. Bernhard war blass, nervoes und voller Adrenalin. Wird es wieder Schwierigkeiten mit den Einwanderungsbeamten geben? Ich war vollkommen ruhig. Ich wusste, dass alles gut geht. Fragt nicht, warum.“Reddy“ hiess unser Einreisebeamter- gutes Omen. …und ein herzliches Willkommen und Glueckwuensche zum Umzug. Keine zweite Kontrolle!
Trotz 120kg Gepaeck keine Zollkontrolle. Ein zweites herzlich Willkommen. Und geschafft!
Im Bus zu Hertz muss Bernhard erstmal Adrenalin abbauen.
Ein Toyota Corolla wird uns nun einige Wochen begleiten. Nein, wir brauchen keinen Jeep für den Umzug (Vorschlag des Vermieters). Unser Haushalt schwimmt gerade im Container gen Long beach. Geplante Ankunft 17.06.09.
LA praesentiert sich frisch gewaschen nach einem heftigen Schauer.
Uebernachtung im Travellodge und am 04.Juni sind wir morgens gen San Diego aufgebrochen. Trotz „Schlechtwetterfront“ Sonnenschein, geile Musik im Auto- der Radiosender von San Diego 105,7 wird unser Favorit . Rockend, grinsend und mit feuchten Augen erreichen wir die neue Heimat. SAN DIEGO – wir sind da! Endlich! Unser Traum wird wahr!
Nun, 4 Tage spaeter haben wir Folgendes bewaeltigt:

• Das komplett ausgestattete Appartement ist bezogen.
• Die Koffer sind ausgepackt.
• Der erste Grosseinkauf getan, Kuehlschrank und Schraenke sind voll.
• Jeder von uns hat eine amerikanische cash-Karte, Kreditkarte und ein Sparkonto.
• Wir haben unser erstes Prepaid-Handy. Das hat Bernhard auf eine gute Idee gebracht. Er wird als Scout fuer Euch von Zeit zu Zeit von den amerikanischen Gepflogenheiten berichten. Vielleicht hilft es Euch, Urlaube, Besuche oder Umzuege gut vorzubereiten und dabei Geld und Aerger zu sparen.
• Wir waren Gaeste beim German Stammtisch lite. Ein unterhaltsamer, lehrreicher Abend. Gruesse an Michael, den Schweisser, Schlagzeuger und charmanten Haudegen…bis bald, bestimmt.
• Nach 2 Tagen intensiver und teilweise frustrierender Suche haben wir ein tolles helles Appartement in einer beeindruckenden Anlage gefunden. Weiteres dazu nach dem Einzug.

Im Moment warten wir auf den Internetanschluß im jetzigen Appartement. Das wird vieles erleichtern.

Beide grinsen wir trotz vieler Dinge, die zu tun sind, wie die Honigkuchenpferde. Wir sind gluecklich, stolz und werden es schaffen . Wir lieben uns – die beste Basis ueberhaupt.

The start of a new life, a dream come true…and from this day on bilingual
We can’t believe it. And it works daily.
What happened in the last few days?
Martin a good friend of us picked us up at the abbey and brought us to the Munich airport. That meant five hours by car for him and his beautiful daughter Bianca. Thank you again for this!
Lufthansa’s terminal 2 isn`t hospitable. We missed benches, it wasn’t clean and no service in the restaurants before 10 a.m.? Unbelievable! We went to the Kempinski hotel opposite the terminal. A small snack and a good Latte macchiato and…..the first unexpected event of the day: A member of the Thai royal family is living there a few month to get his flying license. What a hustle and bustle. About 20 security guards everywhere, about 50 servants, huge limousines which were polished until the last second, red carpets towards the cars. And-believe it or not- Carmen and Bernhard were sitting in the first row – in 3metres distance and were drinking coffee. A little bit surreal!
The plain left on time at 15:35 gate H44. A good sign especially for me – grin. A business entry into the plain – easy going and an exclusive service. The seats seemed to be gameboys . You could choose every position you like, really. Movies, teaching software, games – whatever your heart desires.Rest, relax, enjoy excellent meals cooked by Alexander Herrmann and discover the first class wines to go with them. In short: let yourself be pampered in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Lufthansa has turn our flight into a truly special experience.
Our plain arrived 1 hour earlier. Bernhard looked peaked, was nervous and full of adrenalin. Will there be trouble with the immigration officers again? I was totally calm. I knew that everything would be all right. Don’t ask me why? Our Immigration officer’s name was Reddy – another good sign and a warm welcome from him and congrats to our moving. No secondary inspection!
In spite of 260lbs luggage there wasn’t a close customs inspection. A second warm welcome from the officers. We got it!
Bernhard has to reduce his adrenalin level in the bus to Hertz.We are driving a Toyota Corolla for next few weeks. No, we don’t need a SUV for our moving proposed by the rental agent. Our household is swimming on a container ship through the Atlantic Ocean to Long beach right now. The planed arrival date is June 17th.
LA looked freshly cleaned after heavy rainfall.
We slept at the Travelodge hotel near the airport. In the morning of June 4th we headed straight for San Diego. We heard about bad weather but the sun was shining, awesome music on the radio – San Diego 105.7 will be our favorite from now on we think. We arrived our new home rocking, grinning and with little tears of joy in our eyes. SAN DIEGO – here we are! Finally! Our dream comes true.
Now 4 days later we reached the following goals:

• We moved into our corporate apartment.
• Our bags are unpacked.
• We made the first bulk purchase. Refrigerator and cabinets are stuffed full.
• Each of us has an American debit card, credit card and savings account.
• We bought the first prepaid cell phone pack.Bernhard came up with the great idea to be a scout for all the people who want to come to the US and don’t know the American habits – especially the technical. May be it could help you to avoid getting into trouble and help to save money if you are on vacation, visiting friends or moving to the US.
• We attended the German lite Stammtisch meetup group. It was funny and instructive. Greetings to MICHAEL – the welder, drummer and charming guy…see you soon, be sure.
• After 2 days of intense, partly frustrating search for an apartment we finally found it. A bright awesome apartment in an amazing landscaped area with a lot of amenities. More on this after our move in.

We are still waiting for the I-net access in our actual apartment. That would make things a lot easier.

There are plenty of things to do but we grin like a Cheshire cat. We are happy, proud and we’ll get it. We love each other – the most important thing.
